Lebanon
I have been having a hard time collecting my thoughts on Lebanon, beyond a terrible despair that this mess will ever clear up and people will ever be able to live in peace. Perhaps now that I've written the following poem, I'll be able to think about the politics of the situation.
Vengeance
By Pamela K. Taylor
From the ashes they rise
A hundred
A thousand
A hundred thousand
Blazing phoenixes
With flaming eyes
And bayonet beaks
Claws that tear like shrapnel
From the bloodied ground they rise
Plumed in crimson, vengeance, and rage
From the sky they plummet
Like bombs
Or missiles
They fall upon those
Who lately fell upon them
And those they fall upon?
From the ashes they rise
A thousand livid phoenixes
Where in all this burning
Is the Dove of Peace to nest?
